Social media platform Reddit as source of scientific information

This thesis concerns the analysis of the social networking site Reddit as a source of scientific information. The first chapter describes the concepts related to information sources and the typology of these sources. The second chapter presents a description and characteristics of the Reddit website. Its history, structure, content and a description of the community were cited. The third chapter analysed the site in terms of its reliability as a source of scientific information. The scope and type of content published on Reddit was identified. A deeper look was taken at a specific example on the forum, which made it possible to determine whether it was a reliable source of scientific information. Examples of experts in the field who take an active role in publishing content on the platform were also cited.

Praca dotyczy analizy serwisu społecznościowego Reddit jako źródła informacji naukowej. W pierwszym rozdziale opisane zostały pojęcia związane ze źródłami informacji oraz typologia tych źródeł. W drugim przedstawiono opis oraz charakterystykę serwisu Reddit. Przytoczono jego historię, strukturę, treść oraz opis społeczności. Trzeci rozdział dotyczył analizy serwisu pod kątem jego wiarygodności jako źródła informacji naukowej. Wytypowano zakres oraz typ treści publikowanych na Reddicie. Przyjrzano się głębiej konkretnemu przykładowi na forum, co pozwoliło stwierdzić, czy jest to wiarygodne źródło informacji naukowej. Przytoczono również przykłady ekspertów z danej dziedziny, którzy biorą czynny udział w publikowaniu treści na platformie.
