The role of ‘Abd Allāh bin Muḥammad aṭ- Ṭā’ī in the development of modern literature and culture in Oman and the Gulf

Artykuł ten analizuje rolę ‘Abd Allāha bin Muḥammada aṭ- Ṭā’ī (1924-1973) w rozwoju współczesnej literatury i kultury w Omanie i krajach Zatoki Arabskiej. Aṭ- Ṭā’ī poświęcił swoje życie budowaniu mostów porozumienia między ludźmi. Był nie tylko poetą i pisarzem, ale także autorem studiów krytycznych na temat życia literackiego w Zatoce Arabskiej oraz pionierem omańskiego odrodzenia (nahḍa) w dziedzinie literatury, kultury i myśli politycznej. Miał wielki wpływ na omańskich pisarzy i reformatorów, którzy podobnie jak on aktywnie działali na rzecz edukacji i kultury w Omanie i Zatoce Arabskiej. ‘Abd Allāh aṭ- Ṭā’ī utorował drogę następnemu pokoleniu literatów i stał się symbolem odrodzenia literatury Zatoki Arabskiej. Jako człowiek ciekawy świata, obcych kultur i literatur zajął czołowe miejsce na scenie literackiej Zatoki. Wszystkie prace ‘Abd Allāha at-Ṭā’ī zostały zebrane i opublikowane w 2016 roku przez Dār Faḍā’at w Ammanie w Jordanii.

This article examines the role of ‘Abd Allāh bin Muḥammad aṭ- Ṭā’ī (1924-1973) in the development of modern literature and culture in Oman and the Gulf countries. His life was devoted to building bridges of understanding between people. He was not only poet and writer but also author of critical studies on literary life in the Gulf and a pioneer of Omani “nahḍa” in the field of literature, culture and political thought. He had great influence on Omani writers and reformers who, like him, actively worked for education and culture in Oman and the Gulf. ‘Abd Allāh aṭ- Ṭā’ī paved the way for the next generation of men of letters and became a symbol of the revival of Gulf literature. As a man curious about the world, foreign cultures and literatures, he took the leading place on the literary scene of the Arabian Gulf. All works by ‘Abd Allāh aṭ- Ṭā’ī were collected and published in 2016 by Dār Faḍā’at in Amman, Jordan.
