Developing the legal and normative competences of teachers in the context of changes in the education system in Poland : the inspiration of Janusz Korczak

The everyday practice of education is a mosaic of many contexts of social reality, each of them with its own considerable challenges for teachers who are well aware of their complexity. Teachers today are expected not only to be fuent in recognizing the colors of the mosaic but also to respond adequately to their fuctuation; and the colors are many and varied, corresponding with the aspect of professional preparation for teaching a specifc subject and many other competencies involving developmental psychology, communication, social and problem-solving skills as well as being able to respond to crises in the lives of students or their families. Also, increasingly important in the teacher’s role are the challenges related to protecting the rights of the children of foreign residents and refugees who must be able to fnd a place to grow and develop in the Polish school.
