You are Samsons invincible honeycomb : on the language and selected biblical motifs of old Polish prayers

Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie jednego z wybranych motywów staropolskich "Godzinek o Niepokalanym Poczęciu NMP". Omówiono w nim spetryfikowaną metaforę biblijną z hymnu na tercję (dystych 3) poświadczoną po raz pierwszy w wydaniu Godzinek z 1740 r., w którym Maryja opisana jest jako "niezwyciężonego plastr miodu Samsona". Podejmując filologiczną analizę tekstu Godzinek, artykuł zajmuje się językową, kulturową i teologiczną interpretacją sensu metafory.

The article is devoted to an analysis of one of the selected motifs of the Old Polish "Godzinki o Niepokalanym Poczęciu NMP" (Hours of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary). It discusses a metrified biblical metaphor from a hymn to a third (distich 3) first attested in the 1740 edition of the "Hours", in which Mary is described as "niezwyciężonego plastr miodu Samsona" ("Samson's invincible honeycomb"). Undertaking a philological analysis of the text of the "Hours", the article deals with the linguistic, cultural and theological interpretation of the sense of metaphor.
