Laboratory of the novel : science and narrative in the (master)pieces of positivism

The aim of this thesis was to make analyses and interpretations that reveal the cognitive potential of three novels: Lalka by Bolesław Prus, Bez dogmatu by Henryk Sienkiewicz and Bene nati by Eliza Orzeszkowa. The very juxtaposition of these positions may seem unobvious, and therefore demands adequate justification. Leaving aside the almost identical nature of the main plot of the three works, one could define their genus proximum et differentiam specificam within the general assumptions from which the poetics of realist narrative grows.

Celem niniejszej pracy było dokonanie analiz i interpretacji, które ujawnią potencjał poznawczy trzech powieści: Lalki Bolesława Prusa, Bez dogmatu Henryka Sienkiewicza oraz Bene nati Elizy Orzeszkowej. Już samo zestawienie tych pozycji może się wydać nieoczywiste, dlatego domaga się odpowiedniego uzasadnienia. Abstrahując od niemal identycznej natury wątku głównego trzech dzieł, można by określić ich genus proximum et differentiam specificam w obrębie ogólnych założeń, z których wyrasta poetyka narracji realistycznej.
