Wykłady z historii muzyki w ramach Powszechnych Wykładów Uniwersyteckich w latach 1904-1939
This paper aims to present the involvement of Cracovian musicologists and musicians in a series of lectures organised between 1904 and 1939 for the common public in and outside Kraków by the Jagiellonian University. The questions addressed in this paper have been divided into four sections: 1. The Outline of Public University Lectures in and outside Kraków; 2. The first talks by the music journalist and pianist Franciszek Bylicki; 3. Regular lectures on history of music run by musicologists and musicians (Zdzisław Jachimecki, Józef Reiss, Stanisław Bursa, Stanisław Golachowski); 4. Popularity of music lectures and their topics. The tables show detailed lists of locations, dates and subjects discussed during the talks on the history of music, as well as representative numbers of their audiences, all supported with source references. The type of lecturers’ involvement and topics of their talks have been presented in the context of their academic, writing and artistic achievements.
