"He doesnt speak like me" : a few methological questions about the the popular perception of the geolectal variation in reference to a fala de Xálima (Cáceres)

This paper discusses some methodological approaches to a study of the intersection between the phonetics and the ethnic identity in the paradigm of the perceptual dialectology. In order to explain the vitality of the a fala geolect (Cáceres, Spain), the author claims that Montgomery´s method of starburst charts can be used to identify a fala´s hypothetical non-belonging phonetic features, which may be highly prestigous among the speakers and used to create that language community´s local identity, different from the nearby majorities´ identities and eventually help to prevent the language convergence of a fala.

En el artículo se comentan algunas cuestiones metodológicas en lo reltivo al estudio de la intersección entre la fonética y la identidad cultural dentro del paradigma de la dialectología perceptiva. Con el objetivo de explicar la vitalidad de a fala de Xálima (Cáceres, España), el autor considera oportuno aplicar el método de gráfico radial de Montgomery para identificar los hipotéticos de rasgos fonéticos de no pertenecer, que pueden gozar de prestigio entre los hablantes de a fala y ayudar en crear la identidad local distanciándolos, al mismo tiempo, de las identidades mayoriarias colindantes y, en última instancia, proteger a fala de la convergencia lingüística.
