Between being and oblivion, heaviness and lightness : Kunderas dialogue with the kitsch
The paper deals with the Milan Kundera’s novel, which is based on the antinomy of lightness and heaviness, as well as kitsch and individuality. The author starts his divagations in Parmenides and Nietzsche philosophy. He is also inspired by the works of Witold Gombrowicz. The narrator treats his characters as the experimental ego and confronts them with the reality created on the cross-scheme of those key-words mentioned above. In spite of the fact that The Unbearable Lightness of Being was often interpreted as a passionate polemic with kitsch, one can also tries the deeper analysis. For this novel can be treated as the specific odyssey of the "self", extended between heaviness and lightness. While comparing heaviness and lightness author shows that its dialectic is more equivocal (in opposite do Parmenides’s philosophy). The whole novel is in fact a variation about this intricacy. The same intricacy marks the connection between kitsch and individuality. As the tool to create a totalitarian reality and slave human beings – kitsch is definitely a negative phenomenon. But it can be also recognize and "domesticate". In this circumstances – kitsch comprise an inalienable part of human existence and its relation to the world.
