Pamięć wojny i wojna o pamięć w twórczości Dubravki Ugrešić
Issues of memory comprise an important part of contemporary humanities and cultural studies. They overlap unavoidably in the description of war experience present in Dubravka Ugrešić’s prose. This paper concerns the relationship between the collective and the individual memory; the conflict between them becomes particularly pronounced at the beginning of the Balkan war. Subjected to analysis are Ugre- šić’s essays included in the tome Culture of Lies, as well as the novels Ministry of Pain and Museum of Unconditional Surrender. These items show social transformations, and at the same are a device of individual experience. It is symbolised by photographs and objects, which in Ugrešić’s prose are given special status, because bind broken identity of jugonostalgic and emigrant.
