The author, coming from analytical reflection about fan’s interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s major works, tries to describe how an act of interpretation functions in non-academic communities in order to make a further revision of the definitions of culture and interpretation. Discourse analysis and anthropological reflection from the latest works on humanities, literary and culture theory of M.P. Markowski and R. Nycz bring the major thesis of this text - literature should be understood as a chain of activities and the act of interpretation is an existential negotiation between the subject and external reality.
