"Zawsze gotowi, zawsze blisko" : o zastosowaniu koni w Wojskach Obrony Terytorialnej

The cavalry has long been a distinctive part of the Polish military. Since its early days and continuing through to the present, the lancers and their horses have been surrounded by a unique tradition and respect. These units earned significant victories on the battlefield, and, despite Goebbels' hostile propaganda, they remain a lasting part of both Polish history and the nation's collective memory. Though time has replaced horses with machines, we continue to see many reflections of the values and principles that guided the cavalry, as well as a new, evolving role for horses in modern times. At the beginning of the 21st century, there was a noticeable surge of interest in pre-war cavalry traditions. Volunteer units were formed, and even schools established cavalry classes. The culmination of these efforts can be seen in pilot programs exploring the use of horse-drawn transport in the Territorial Defence Forces. The motto "Always ready, always close" reflects one of the affirmations of the Territorial Defence Forces (WOT), while also presenting horses in a new role within the modern army.

Kawaleria od dawna stanowiła wyróżniający się element polskich sił zbrojnych. Od najdawniejszych czasów, aż po dziś dzień, ułani i ich konie otoczeni byli wyjątkową tradycją i szacunkiem. Jednostki te odnosiły znaczące zwycięstwa na polach bitew, dlatego pomimo wrogiej Goebbelsowskiej propagandy pozostają trwałą częścią zarówno polskiej historii, jak i narodowej pamięci. Choć z biegiem czasu konie zostały zastąpione przez maszyny, nadal widoczne są liczne odzwierciedlenia wartości i zasad, które kierowały kawalerią, a także nowa, ewoluująca rola koni w czasach współczesnych. Na początku XXI wieku zauważono wyraźny wzrost zainteresowania tradycjami kawalerii przedwojennej. Powstały ochotnicze oddziały, a nawet szkoły oferujące klasy o profilu kawaleryjskim. Kulminacją tych działań są programy pilotażowe badające wykorzystanie transportu konnego w Wojskach Obrony Terytorialnej (WOT). Motto „Zawsze gotowi, zawsze blisko” odzwierciedla jedno z założeń WOT, a jednocześnie prezentuje konie w nowej roli w nowoczesnej armii.
