Airports, which constitute one of the vital components of the air transport system, have to meet increasingly sophisticated demands of competitiveness. One of the analytical methods used to isolate significant factors influencing the level of competitiveness of an airport is competitive benchmarking. The issue of the benchmarking of airports is a complex one that requires study and analysis. Benchmarking allows comparative studies of the effective use of airports' competitive potential. The article discusses methodological assumptions and typologies of benchmarking, as well as lists the needs and requirements of this type of research for the benefit of airports in the contemporary air transportation market.

Porty lotnicze, będące jednym z elementów systemu transportu lotniczego, muszą sprostać coraz wyższym wymaganiom konkurencyjnym. Jedną z metod analitycznych stosowanych w celu wyodrębnienia czynników istotnie wpływających na kształtowanie się poziomu konkurencyjności portu lotniczego, a następnie umożliwiającą porównanie i pozy cjonowanie aktualnej pozycji konkurencyjnej jest benchmarking. W artykule podjęto rozważania na temat założeń metodologicznych analizy benchmarkingowej dotyczących portów lotniczych, w odniesieniu do głównych koncepcji i typologii dotyczącej benchmarkingu. Dokonano przeglądu stosowanych metod badawczych na rzecz portów lotniczych, a także wskazano potrzeby i oczekiwania względem tego typu badań na współczesnym rynku lotniczym.
