Collective memory about the past and multiculturalism

The research conducted as part of the NCN grant under the title "Local Poland towards European integration. The decade of experience" concerned many aspects, including how respondents perceive the history of the region in which they live, what is their level of knowledge about the past of local communities, if they are aware that these places at one time were inhabited not only by Poles, and finally, what they know about the former inhabitants of these lands. Collective memory in the Subcarpathian region, in Lower Silesia and in the Lublin area relating to the phenomenon of the multiculturalism of these lands it has in the last years deepened and intensified.The level of knowledge about the former non-Polish inhabitants of the analysed regions differs, depending on the individual interviewees, their education, but also age. The knowledge of the younger generation is usually poor, while the older generation betrays - although to a limited extent - the fear "of otherness". In the villages of the Klodzko region the memory of the Germans is commonplace, due to, among other things, the visits of former residents.

Pamięć zbiorowa w regionach podkarpackim, lubelskim i dolnośląskim odnosząca się do zjawiska wielokulturowości tych ziem uległa w ostatnich latach pogłębieniu i natężeniu. Niemała w tym zasługa lokalnych inicjatyw, także samorządowych, których celem była swoista popularyzacja lokalnych dziejów. Poziom wiedzy o dawnych niepolskich mieszkańcach analizowanych gmin jest zróżnicowany, zależny od poszczególnych rozmówców, ich wykształcenia, ale i wieku. Wiedza młodszego pokolenia jest z reguły niewielka, z kolei pokolenia starsze cechuje - choć w ograniczonym stopniu - obawa "przed innością". W miejscowościach ziemi kłodzkiej pamięć o Niemcach jest czymś powszechnym, co wynika m.in. z faktu odwiedzin byłych mieszkańców. Badania prowadzone w latach 2012-14 wykazały zróżnicowane istnienie pamięci o wielokulturowości i przeszłości przebadanych obszarów.
