The broken code of poetry : on "Imperium chmur" [The Empire of Clouds] by Jacek Dukaj and "Szczelinami" [Through the Cracks] by Wit Szostak

The article presents two works, one of which is a novel and at the same time a haiku (Imperium chmur [The Empire of Clouds] by Jacek Dukaj), while the other is a collection of poems designated as a novel in the subtitle (Szczelinami. Powieść [Through the Cracks. A Novel] by Wit Szostak). Both these experiments put forward a number of questions about today’s status of poetry and verse. Among others they ask what the poetic idiom is, whether the boundary between verse and prose is still relevant, what the status of fiction in verse is, and how the subject, construction and stylistic "falsification" should be treated. The author analyzes both examples in detail, pointing out that each of the two writers uses the "code of poetry" in a different manner, but both of them "break" it in some way, i.e. they uncover, decipher and, partly, demystify it.

Artykuł ukazuje dwa utwory, z których jeden jest powieścią i jednocześnie haiku (Imperium chmur Jacka Dukaja), a drugi zbiorem wierszy nazwanych w podtytule powieścią (Szczelinami. Powieść Wita Szostaka). Oba przedstawione eksperymenty otwierają wiele pytań do-tyczących statusu poezji i wiersza dziś – m.in. dotyczących tego, czym jest poetycki idiom, czy granica między wierszem a prozą jest jeszcze istotna, jaki status ma fikcja w wierszu, jak traktować podmiotowy, konstrukcyjny i stylistyczny "falsyfikat". Autorka szczegółowo analizuje obydwa przykłady, wskazując, że każdy z tych pisarzy inaczej wykorzystuje "kod poezji", ale obydwaj go w jakiś sposób "łamią", tj. odkrywają, deszyfrują i po części demistyfikują.
