The subject of the article is the dispute surrounding the performance of Golgotha Picnic theatre play, which took place in Poland in 2014. The main communication obstacles preventing public dialogue are analyzed. These include: the axiological conflict of religious and secular language, high levels of emotion, fear and mutual mistrust, and the creation of different narratives about the ongoing events. The text also identifies opportunities for opening and conducting dialogue. Recordings of the protests and the transcript of the debate at Freedom Square in Poznań are analyzed. The theoretical background is provided by Leszek Kolakowski’s reflections on the language of the sacrum, Stephen Karpman’s drama triangle, as well as existing research on communication and dialogue.
