Following the steps of Polish musicians in Moscow : reflections and reminiscences from pre-war times

Artykuł przedstawia ogólne podsumowanie wyników kwerend przeprowadzonych w latach 2018-2021 w bibliotekach i archiwach Moskwy, takich jak: Rosyjskie Państwowe Archiwum Literatury i Sztuki, Rosyjskie Państwowe Archiwum Akt Dawnych, Rosyjska Biblioteka Państwowa (tzw. Leninka), Naukowa Muzyczna Biblioteka im. Siergieja Taniejewa przy Państwowym Konserwatorium im. Piotra Czajkowskiego oraz Rosyjskie Narodowe Muzeum Muzyki (tzw. Muzeum Glinki). Kwerendy te zostały przeprowadzone w ramach projektu badawczego finansowanego ze środków Narodowego Programu Rozwoju Humanistyki, moduł Dziedzictwo Narodowe, 0044/NPRH6/H11/85/2018. Ich celem było stworzenie solidnej bazy wiedzy na temat muzycznych poloników przechowanych w wymienionych instytucjach. Badania obejmowały różne typy źródeł, takie jak: rękopisy, druki muzyczne, programy koncertowe i korespondencję. Zebrane materiały stanowią cenne świadectwo działalności Polaków w Rosji oraz intensywnych kontaktów polsko-rosyjskich w dziedzinie kultury muzycznej w XIX wieku i na początku XX stulecia. Niektóre polonika zostały opracowane w formie katalogu przez Jolantę Byczkowską-Sztabę, inne stały się przedmiotem pogłębionych analiz i interpretacji. W artykule zostały omówione różne praktyczne aspekty prowadzenia kwerend w moskiewskich bibliotekach, w tym pozyskiwanie informacji, udostępnianie zbiorów i organizacja pracy. Opisane doświadczenia opierają się na korzystaniu z tych zbiorów, zanim pandemia i wojna zamknęły do nich dostęp. Wyniki kwerend zostały opublikowane w monografii zbiorowej "Polsko-rosyjskie spotkania w przestrzeni kultury muzycznej. Studia szkice i materiały pod redakcją Renaty Suchowiejko", wydanej przez Księgarnię Akademicką w Krakowie w 2022 roku.

The article presents results of preliminary surveys carried out in Moscow between 2018-2021 at the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Russian State Archives of Ancient Documents, The Russian State Library (so called Leninka), the Scientific Music Library at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Russian National Museum of Music (the Glinka Museum). The enquiries were conducted as part of a research project funded by the National Programme for the Development of Humanities, the National Heritage module 0044/NPRH6/H11/85/2018. The purpose of the survey was to create a reliable base of Polish-related music materials held at the above mentioned institutions. The research included various sources, such as manuscripts, music prints, concert repertoires and correspondence. The materials represent an important testimony of activities of Poles in Russia and abundant Russian-Polish relationships and cultural transfers at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Some of the materials have been catalogued by Jolanta Byczkowska-Sztaba, some others were subject of in-depth analysis and interpretations. The article describes the practical aspects of surveys in the Moscow archives, including gathering of the relevant information, accessibility of the sources and work organisation before the pandemic and the war on Ukraine made them unavailable. The outcomes of the surveys were published in a paper "Polish-Russian encounters in the music culture area. Studies and materials edited by Renata Suchowiejko", published by the Ksiegarnia Akademicka in Krakow in 2022.
