Death and funeral in the folklore of Cieszyn Silesia : a case study of the village of Pruchna

The paper deals with burial customs, and the way death is dealt with in the folk culture of Cieszyn Silesia. The analysed material was collected in the course of an ethnographic study in the village of Pruchna. Due to the religious diversity of the inhabitants of the village, an attempt was made to highlight the differences between Protestants and Catholics.

Artykuł dotyczy zwyczajów pogrzebowych i sposobu traktowania śmierci w kulturze ludowej Śląska Cieszyńskiego. Analizowany materiał został zebrany w trakcie badań etnograficznych we wsi Pruchna. Ze względu na zróżnicowanie religijne mieszkańców wsi podjęto próbę uwypuklenia różnic pomiędzy protestantami a katolikami.

Der Beitrag befasst sich mit Bestattungsbräuchen und dem Umgang mit dem Tod in der Volkskultur der Teschener Schlesier. Das analysierte Material wurde im Rahmen einer ethnographischen Untersuchung im Dorf Pruchna gesammelt. Aufgrund der religiösen Vielfalt der Dorfewohner*innen wurde versucht, die Unterschiede zwischen Protestant*innen und Katholik*innen herauszustellen.
