Tell el-Farkha as a trade centre between Egypt and the Levant in the 4th millennium BC
Tell el-Farkha is a site in the eastern Nile Delta, which documents a span of more than 1000 years (c. 3700 –
2600 BC). From the beginning of its settlement, trade was the most important area of the economy for the inhabitants of
the Tell el-Farkha. They established very intensive and highly developed trade relations with the Near East from one side
and Upper Egypt from another. During the last three centuries of the 4th millennium BC Tell el-Farkha was probably the
most important economic and political centre in the eastern Nile Delta.
