The contribution of finds from feature no. 1/12 at Ražňany (distr. Sabinov, Slovakia) for the problem of foreign influences in the area of the Bükk culture

In the village of Ražňany (district of Sabinov), a big feature (1/12) of the Bükk culture was investigated in the years 2012-2014. Over seven thousand pottery sherds and over one and a half thousand chipped lithics were found there. All the basic groups of the Bükk pottery are represented in the material; mainly different forms of bowls. Decorations were executed first and foremost on thin-walled pottery. Delicately manufactured engraved ornamentations constitute the lion’s share of all the decorations. Quite frequently engraved lines are filled with white, red and/or yellow incrustations. Želiezovce and Stroke Band Pottery motifs recorded on pottery are also of great importance. The chipped inventory comprises remnants of the full operational chain – i.e. the feature probably contains remnants of a domestic workshop, basing on local radiolarites. Tools from imported raw materials (“chocolate” flint, obsidian, limnic quartzites) were also identified. Feature 1/12 can be referred to the late phase (C) of the Bükk culture.
