"Bebedera a la americana" : the linguistic richness of the Hispanic vocabulary of drunkenness

The present article deals with numerous and heterogeneous synonyms of the Spanish lexeme borrachera ‘drunkenness’ in the contemporary American Spanish, documented in the Diccionario de americanismos (2010). The study includes 19 countries, 129 lexemes and covers the phonetic, morphological, semantic, geographical and etymological levels. All this in order to prove the extraordinary and heterogeneous wealth of the Hispanoamerican vocabulary.
