Dostoevsky : the poverty of culture and its power

This article presents the dialectics of culture in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s thinking. Two kinds of culture are being analysed: (1) culture, which could be described as antireligious civilisation leading mankind to the moral degeneration; (2) culture meant as a kind of activity inspired by religious concept and as a responsibility for the whole world. Dostoevsky does not reject culture in the way as many of his contemporary did - rejecting culture due to people gladness or due to vision of the Kingdom of God. The Russian writer describes the religious and moral sense of culture as a human work for perfection and as an activity creating human’s world.
