The aim of the study is to analyze how Oman's oil-based economy is diversified by examining the development of the tourism industry in Oman itself and in the neighboring countries of the Arabian Peninsula. The first chapter outlines the history of economic development in the Persian Gulf before and after the discovery of oil. The second chapter describes development plans and strategies such as the Oman 2040 Vision and the Oman Tourism Strategy; the activities of the OMRAN organization and the politics and diplomacy of Sultan Qabus and Sultan Haitham were presented. Next chapter three the factors of tourism development by analyzing the potential of natural conditions and the potential of human resources in Oman. The last chapter is devoted to problems related to the development of the tourism industry, such as respect for human rights, the economic crisis (especially caused by the coronavirus pandemic) and the problem of environmental protection.
